Hialeah-Miami Lakes football coach under arrest for inappropriate relationship with 17 year old female student

A high school football coach is being held on suspicion of having an improper relationship with a student. 

Edward Malachi Williams, 44, of Miramar, was allegedly romantically involved with a 17-year-old girl at Hialeah-Miami Lakes Senior High School. 

Based upon a police report, the victim stated that the two were not sexually active and were waiting for her to turn 18 before going public with their relationship. According to one of the texts she showed police, Williams wrote: “Baby, give me one chance, baby, baby, baby, give me one chance.” I’m still reeling from the fact that I’ve lost my girl. Why don’t we make love one last time; it won’t be the last time, but it will be for a while.” 

Officers from Miami-Dade Schools Police stated that they went to the 17-year-home old’s after receiving information from an anonymous source. 

They stated that the girl mentioned that they are “in love, have held hands, and kissed,” despite that, they have not been sexually intimate. 

According to investigators, Williams was located at the school on Thursday and transported to the Miami-Dade Public Schools Police Department headquarters for questioning, where he was later arrested. 

Williams worked for Miami-Dade County Public Schools from 1999 to 2017. In June 2020, he returned to the District. School officials stated that he had no prior disciplinary history. .

According to police, Williams is also a pastor and a youth mentor. 

He is charged with Offenses Against Students by Authority Figures, a second-degree felony. 

Miami-Dade County Public Schools issued the following statement regarding the arrest:

“Upon learning of this allegation, Miami-Dade County Public Schools (M-DCPS) is disturbed. Miami-Dade Schools Police launched an investigation and made an arrest as soon as the anonymous tip surfaced on Tuesday. The individual’s employment with M-DCPS has been terminated, and he will be barred from seeking employment with the District in the future. M-DCPS will continue to take swift action against anyone who jeopardizes our efforts to safeguard our students’ well-being.”
