Popcaan released a new single called “Elevate” over the weekend, which features Imeru Tafari, grandson of reggae Derrick Morgan and the son of reggae Queen Ifrica. A musical collaboration composed of Attomatic and Dan Sky, the track depicts the two harmonizing about persevering to reach the finish line, even if that means some aren’t meant to be involved in their success:
This clip for “Elevate” was directed by Glimpse Cinema, and shows Popcaan and Tafari mobbing heavily and walking around Jamaica with their crew. Overall, the video is filled with high energy, which is a perfect match for the song and the inspirational message it conveys.
A Valentine’s Day-themed EP was not released until 2022, but Popcaan celebrated Valentine’s Day in 2021 with Gyalentine’s, an EP that contained four perfect tracks about the special day. That being said, he did team up with Beres Hammond for a remix of “A Mother’s Love” this past Monday, with Sizzla providing a contribution as well. Last year, Popcaan released FIXTAPE, a 19-track collection of collaborations with artists such as Dane Ray, Stylo G, Drake, Tommy Lee Sparta, Masicka, PARTYNEXTDOOR, Jada Kingdom, Frahcess One, French Montana, and Preme, the latter of whom also collaborated with Popcaan on Link Up the following year.
