A few months ago, Russ dropped a self-produced cut titled “Utah Freestyle,” part of a series of weekly releases the Atlanta-based hitmaker has been providing his fans with all year. He boasts about his success and references JAY-Z quotes in regard to owning his masters on “Utah Freestyle,” similar to his more hip-hop-oriented records:
In the days leading up to Christmas, Russ released a video for “Utah Freestyle,” which he codirected with Shaq. Beyond switching between colors and black-and-white, the video consists of some shots of Russ standing in front of a Rolls-Royce, a few eye-catching silhouettes, which include a dog and a pile of diamonds.
Among the many highlights of the Utah Freestyle is the ending line, which confirms CHOMP 2 is on the way. The predecessor dropped late last year and had five tracks featuring collaborations with Ab-Soul, DJ Premier, KXNG Crooked, Benny The Butcher, Busta Rhymes, and Black Thought. The year 2020 also featured Russ’ final official studio album SHAKE THE SNOW GLOBE, his last under Columbia, which peaked inside the top five of the Billboard 200 and included contributions from Kiana Ledé, Devin The Dude, Rick Ross, and BIA. In addition to the original album, there was a deluxe edition that included seven additional songs.
