Willow teams up with Machine Gun Kelly on “emo girl”

Machine Gun Kelly is set to release his sixth studio album Mainstream Sellout next month, the rapper’s second with Travis Barker. It will feature previously released singles such as “drug dealer girl,” which was leaked last summer in collaboration with IANN DIOR and “love race,” “papercuts” with Kellin Quinn, and. “Emo girl” was also added by MGK earlier this month, even though Willow Smith is now simply known as WILLOW and additional production has been added by Dark Waves. The track seems to reverse the conventional stereotypes of “emo girls”:

The video for “emo girl” was created by Drew Kirsh. It begins with an edgy Barker leading some kids into what appears to be a punk rock museum, featuring WILLOW and MGK as the main exhibits. By the end of the trip, Barker has transformed back to his usual self, while the kids wear full-on emo goth clothing. Another humorous scene depicts MGK and his things being thrown out of a house by a woman.

Aside from its original name, Mainstream Sellout could be traced to an argument that MGK sold out to more mainstream genres to pursue what has become a major pivot. Ticket To My Downfall, the Cleveland musician’s last album, broke into both pop and punk-rock territory, becoming both his first Billboard 200 number one album and first Platinum-certified album. In response to the speculation, MGK asserted that he is simply being his true self, without holding back:
